The Matrix cabinet uses interlocking panel-bracing to eliminate unwanted cabinet resonances that may color the sound. The Kevlar cone has FST technology, which essentially uses a foam ring allowing the cone to float freely for an improved cone response. There is a freemounted 1" aluminum dome tweeter for high frequencies which sits on top of the main Matrix cabinet in a nautilus tapering tube. This tweeter-on-top design eliminates reflections that may occur if the driver where placed in a conventional cabinet. The efficient mechanical design of this speaker allows for a simple and efficient crossover, reducing the electrical processing impact on the sound. The cabinet is avaialable in three real wood veneers: cherrywood, rosenut and black ash; and comes with a removable black cloth grill. The B&W HTM3S can be shelf mounted, or on the purpose designed FS-HTM floor stand, and is designed to be paired with the 803S or 804S as L/R speakers.
