B&W HTM61
$650.00
Released March, 2007
The Pros:Attractive. Large 6 and 6.5" low-mid frequency drivers. Four vinyl finishes: black ash, light oak (not available in USA/Canada), red cherry and wengé.
The Cons:Grille is not magnetically attached. Limited finishes available in Canada/USA. Disappointing match for the 683 towers.
The B&W HTM61 is the larger of two center channels available in Bowers & Wilkins (B&W) affordable high-end 600 series of home audio speakers. This speaker is designed to compliment either the 684 or 683 floorstanding speakers for home theatre sytems in medium to large sized rooms.
There is a 6.5" woven Kevlar cone for bass, and a 6" woven Kevlar cone for midrange frequencies, which feature a fixed centre bullet that helps smooth the response into upper frequencies. The 6" midrange cone also features FST technology, which essentially uses a foam ring allowing the cone to float freely for an improved cone response. Between these two speakers is a 1" aluminum dome tweeter, which handles all high frequencies. The tweeter is contained in a Nautilus tapering tube, which is designed to only project sound through a hollow pole magnet frontwards, and is tapered towards the rear to eliminate reflections off the rear of the cabinet producing unwanted sound effects. Unlike standard center channels which need to be placed horizontally under a monitor, this model can be placed horizontally or vertically if space is limited. Magnetic shielding allows the speaker to be placed near any TV without any picture distortion. The B&W HTM61 is avaialable in four vinyl finishes: black ash, light oak (not available in USA/Canada), red cherry and wengé; and comes with a removable black cloth grill. The B&W HTM61 is sold individually or as the center speaker in the 683 home theatre system.

#b_w_htm61 I have owned both the HTM62 & the HTM61. Having read a few negative reviews by the "pros" i sampled the HTM61 in shop, loved it, purchased it & would recommend it to anyone interested in the 600series. I have it paired with the 683s as mains & 685s as rears. Absolutely amazing clarity, detail and i feel an overall great match with the 683s. I completely disagree with the negative reviews & all who have been over my place to enjoy a movie or listen to music are totally stunned with everything they have heard. Go listen for yourself, i highly doubt you wont love it!!
