B&W PV1

$1,950.00 Released January, 2008

Product Shot 1 The Pros:Modern style. Great sound quality - low extension with flat response. Good build quality.

The Cons:Somewhat odd looking / non-traditional for a subwoofer. Not great in a larger room - requires 2. High price.

The B&W PV1 is one of Bowers & Wilkins more exciting subwoofers just because of the way it looks. Instead of sticking with the traditional boxy feel, the company took the PV1 and designed a subwoofer to look like a sphere.

The engineering steals ideas from deep sea pressure vehicles, the bubble shape ideal for handling the pressure differences that a subwoofer produces. The twin drivers function back to back and the driver diaphragms are made out of a three layer construction of mica cone, a concave aluminum outer skin, and an expanded polystyrene filler. The B&W PV1 is more powerful than the AS1 or AS2 with 500 watts of ICEpower amplification. It accepts speaker level and line level inputs and the input panel is hidden down at the base of the sphere. It comes in a choice of finishes: gloss black with anthracite trim, gloss silver with grey trim, and gloss white with chrome trim.
