Infinity Primus P162

$200.00

Product Shot 1 The Pros:Excellent value bookshelf @ $200 / pair. Strong MMD material used in drivers. Magnetically shielded.

The Cons:Limited bass response likely requires a sub-woofer if you want deep bass. Fairly plain looking. Only available in a black woodgrain finish.

The Infinity Primus P162 are entry-level 2-way bookshelf speakers at the top of the Primus line from Infinity systems. They feature a 3/4" tweeter and 6 1/2" mid-range woofer. Both the mid-range and high frequency drivers are made from Metal Matrix Diaphragm material (MMD) found in Infinity's flagship Cascade series.

Product Shot 2 MMD features a stiff aluminum core, anodized on both sides for increased strength and rigidity. Compared to paper, polypropylene, and kevlar drivers MMD conduct faster, removing unwanted resonance frequencies. The P162s retail for around $100 / each ($200 / pair), although they have an MSRP of $120 / each. The P162 sit atop the Primus bookshelf line, rounded out by the P152 ($90 each) and P142 ($70 each) with 5.25" and 4" mid-range drivers respectively with a less-desirable bass response. The P162 can be paired with other speakers in the Primus line to create a surround setup, and likely would necessitate an additional sub-woofer for deeper bass response. The P162 is ideally suited to be paired with the Infinity Primus PC350 center channel (MSRP $220 or $150 retail).
