Sony SS-F5000
$160.00
Released May, 2007
The Pros:Sound output is full-bodied and bright - high volume levels are handled with minimal distortion. Highs/mids are strong and crisp - distinction between elements is clear yet unified. Great for home theater applications - speakers work especially well as rear surround outputs.
The Cons:Bass presence is somewhat lacking - external subwoofer required for sufficient low-end output. Not conducive to larger rooms - 120W power handling can fall short in wider/longer spaces. Stock wires are very thin/breakable - must be replaced immediately to prevent long-term damage.
The Sony SS-F5000 consists of a pair of standalone, performance bookshelf speakers designed to work alongside a surround-sound system. Each speaker hosts a large 8” Kevlar woofer, a 3-1/4” mid-driver, and a 1” Nano-Fine balanced dome tweeter.

Most notable about these speakers is that each boasts a Bass Reflex port, allowing them to deliver an extremely wide frequency range, along with a powerful 150W power output. Due to their design, they are relatively heavy at almost 25 lbs a piece, but easily compensate with their precision sound reproduction.
