Universal Remote Digital R50
$170.00
Released November, 2008
The Pros:Macro functions are very useful and highly customizable. Excellent range of screen colours and brightness, sufficient for all lighting conditions. Comfortable and responsive buttons, easy to press.
The Cons:Included instructions are not as clear as they should be, and customization can be a hassle. Backlight tends to shut itself off too quickly. Some commands (channel and volume) are awkwardly placed and hard to locate in the dark.
The Universal Remote Digital R50 is a high-end consumer remote and is targeted at those with extensive home theatre systems, as it controls up to 17 different A/V components. It has a color screen with a built-in setup wizard prompter and several thousand codes that reduce setup time.

It is also supposed to be simple to setup, regardless of prior knowledge of remote setup. The R50 can store up to 48 favorite channels and has a full-system master volume control. It also allows customizable macros that perform numerous actions at once. The remote can also "learn" and adapt to features of other remotes as they are released, the idea being that the R50 should not need to be replaced because of obsolescence.
